GT Group has won an international tender to supply 111 new metro cars to Tbilisi City Hall, with trains supplied by CRRC, China's leading rail transit manufacturer. The agreement signed today is worth 150 million euros and is financed by the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB).
Tbilisi Mayor Kaha Kaladze announced the results of the tender, noting that the initial tender target was to purchase 97 vehicles for a total price of 130 million euros. However, the range was later expanded to 111 units, with a total price of 150 million euros. This means that the price of each train is about 1.35 million euros (about 4.3 million Georgian lari).
Train configuration and technical specifications
orders will include:
14 trains with 4 cars
11 trains with 5 carriages
Each carriage meets the following specifications:
Length: 18.5–19.5 m (including coupling)
Height: 3.65 m
Width: 2.7 meters
Passenger capacity: Each train can accommodate 1,400 passengers
Deliveries of the new metro cars are expected to begin in 2026 and will last for five years.
