Yesterday, Wang Lixin, deputy general manager of China State Railway Group Co., Ltd., released a report on the development of China's high-speed railway. By the end of 2024, China's high-speed rail will have an operating mileage of 48,000 kilometers, accounting for more than 70% of the world's total high-speed rail mileage. It has built the world's largest 12306 real-time ticket trading system, with a maximum of 26 million tickets sold in a single day; China has cooperated with more than 40 countries and regions in railway planning, design, construction and operation, covering Asia, Europe, North America and Africa.

Achievements From the alpine permafrost to the desert Gobi, China's high-speed rail is everywhere

In his speech, Wang Lixin focused on the achievements and prospects of China's high-speed rail innovation and development. He said that in recent years, China has promoted the construction of high-speed railways with high quality, the four-vertical and four-horizontal high-speed rail network has been completed and put into operation, and the main corridors of eight vertical and eight horizontal high-speed railways have gradually taken shape. By the end of 2024, China's high-speed rail will have 48,000 kilometers in operation, accounting for more than 70% of the world's total high-speed rail mileage.

Wang Lixin also counted a number of distinctive high-speed railways in China, some of which connect super-large metropolitan areas, and some travel through special areas such as alpine permafrost, desert Gobi, and tropical seashores.

For example, the Beijing-Shanghai high-speed railway, with a total length of 1,318 kilometers and a design speed of 350 kilometers per hour, will be completed, and the Beijing-Shanghai four-hour high-speed rail metropolitan area will be completed; The Harbin-Dalian high-speed railway, with a total length of 928 kilometers and a design speed of 350 kilometers per hour, passes through the alpine seasonal tundra area, with a maximum temperature difference of more than 70 °C along the line; The Lanzhou-Urumqi high-speed railway has been built, with a total length of 1,786 kilometers, a design speed of 250 kilometers per hour, and more than 1,000 kilometers, with a maximum altitude of 3,680 meters. The Hainan Island High-speed Railway will be completed, with a total length of 653 kilometers and a maximum design speed of 250 kilometers per hour, passing through the tropical coastal area; The Beijing-Guangzhou-Hong Kong high-speed railway, with a total length of 2,432 kilometers and a design speed of 350 kilometers per hour, will be completed, spanning a variety of terrain and geological regions of temperate and subtropical regions and many water systems; The Beijing-Zhangjiakou high-speed railway, with a total length of 172 kilometers and a design speed of 350 kilometers per hour, is a landmark project of China's intelligent high-speed rail technology innovation.

The development of the 12306 real-time ticket trading system has a maximum of 26 million tickets sold in a single day

According to Wang Lixin, the world's highest speed of 350 kilometers per hour has been achieved on 17 high-speed rail lines such as Beijing-Shanghai and Beijing-Guangzhou, with a maximum speed of 350 kilometers per hour.

China has also built the world's largest 12306 real-time ticketing trading system, with a maximum of 26 million tickets sold in a single day, more than 16 million high-speed rail passengers sent in a single day, and new measures for diversified services such as online seat selection of e-tickets, face verification, and Internet food ordering.

In terms of foreign cooperation, China has always adhered to the principles of extensive consultation, joint contribution and shared benefits, and has successively carried out railway planning, design, construction and operation cooperation with more than 40 countries and regions, covering Asia, Europe, North America and Africa, which has become a bright business card for high-quality Belt and Road cooperation and international production capacity cooperation, and has contributed China's wisdom and strength to the development of the global railway industry.

For example, Indonesia's Jakarta-Bandung high-speed railway is a typical case of China's high-speed rail cooperation with foreign countries. With a total length of 142.3 kilometers and a design speed of 350 kilometers per hour, the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed railway in Indonesia is a landmark project for China's Belt and Road Initiative and Indonesia's global marine fulcrum concept to connect with the practical cooperation between China and Indonesia. With the opening of operations in October 2023, the travel time from Jakarta to Bandung has been reduced from more than three hours to 46 minutes.

Outlook In the future, China's high-speed rail will continue to focus on a number of fields

According to the research of the International Union of Railways, the construction and operation of high-speed railways have also led to the rapid development of metallurgy, machinery, construction, rubber, electric power, information, precision instruments and other industries, and have played an important role in promoting the optimization and upgrading of the industrial structure. It is estimated that for every 100 million yuan invested in China's high-speed railway, the output value of downstream related industries such as construction and metallurgical manufacturing will be more than 1 billion yuan, and more than 600 jobs can be created. In particular, as the integration of modern high-tech trains, the Fuxing high-speed train has more than 100,000 parts, more than 260 independent technical systems, more than 100 core enterprises that design and produce EMU parts, and more than 500 close-layer enterprises, covering more than 20 provinces.

Wang Lixin introduced that after years of technical research, China has built a high-speed railway technology system covering six aspects: high-speed EMU project construction, train control, traction power supply, operation management and safety assurance. Successfully developed the Fuxing series of EMUs with a speed of 160 kilometers per hour to 350 kilometers per hour, different speed levels and various systems, which can adapt to various operating environments such as plateau, alpine and sandstorm.

Where will China's high-speed rail development go next? In this regard, Wang Lixin also made an outlook, he said that in the future, China's high-speed rail will continue to focus on key areas such as higher speed, smarter, safer and greener.

Focusing on higher-speed high-speed railways, a new generation of 400 km/h high-speed EMUs will be developed, and the prototype will be successfully released at the end of 2024, and trials are being carried out to realize the commercial operation of 400 km/h high-speed railways.

Focusing on smarter high-speed railways, we will promote the in-depth integration and development of artificial intelligence technology and railways, deepen innovation in technical fields such as intelligent construction, intelligent equipment, and intelligent operation, and empower railway innovation and development with digitalization.

Focusing on safer high-speed railways, relying on new technologies such as big data, the Internet, and cloud computing, we will establish and improve the risk perception technology system for high-speed railways, enhance the safety and resilience of facilities and equipment, and improve the ability to respond to extreme natural disasters and emergencies.

Focusing on a more complete experimental verification system, based on the National Railway Test Center, supplemented by the line resources before the opening of the new line and during the skylight period of the operation line, supported by professional laboratories, and guaranteed by professional operation and maintenance teams, a comprehensive experimental verification system for all elements of high-speed railways has been established.

After years of development, China Railway has gradually established a complete technical standard system for high-speed railways. China is willing to strengthen cooperation with other countries in the world, deeply participate in international standardization governance, give full play to the leading role of technical standards, and improve the efficiency and quality of the world's high-speed rail construction and development.
